Have Your Cake and Eat It Terrilyn Eribo Institution: Question: Select a news article dated within the previous two months and analyze the issue using the economic concepts and theory learned in this class. Introduction The article â€Å"have your cake and eat it† in The Economist, it talks about the economic growth of different countries with regards to the political system operating in the different countries. The main point discussed in the paper is that evaluating the economic impact of a country caused by its political system can be tricky and at the same time complex. For instance, an autocratic country like China has experienced a 10 % growth in its economy over the past decade; this is more than its Democratic counterparts. The growth in China has been attributed to totalitarian leaders who do not give freedom to the public and thus can lay long-term foundations of growth without the public second-guessing them. On the other hand, researchers have found that democratic countries invest much in schooling and health that helps them in future economic growth, also in such a country where people are allowed to voice their concerns there is little unrest. Another important issue pointed o ut in the article touches on the change in the political system in a country can either lead to growth or stumbling of the economy (The Economist, 2015).
